Aaand I'm Back.

After a short hiatus from blogging I'm back!  I know I haven't posted on the blog in a while, but sometimes life just happens.  And while you should always try to keep a steady routine in diet, exercise, etc., sometimes life just happens.  In the rest of your life, you are not going to work out every single day and you are not going to eat right every single day, but we are human.  The goal is to get to the majority of the rest of your days eating right and exercising.

So, post nutrition workout: is very very important!  You want to get something that has a good amount of protein but also some good carbs to go along with it.  The carbs will give your body the energy it needs to metabolize the protein.  Right now, I have a favorite protein shake which consists of:

1 cup organic skim milk
1/2 cup Fage 0% original greek yogurt
2 tbsp peanut butter
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 scoop Isopure Dutch Chocolate powder (Low carb)

I acknowledge that this combination may not be for everyone, but right now it's one of my favorites!  I also like it because it's more substantial than just protein powder and milk or water, so if I get back from working out a little before dinner or something, it might be able to hold me over a little more to dinner.

Also, sometimes I will just indulge myself in a small breakfast sandwich after my workouts.  I usually do:

1 whole wheat sandwich thin
1 large egg fried (dry - so with cooking spray)
1 slice cheddar or american cheese
Then any vegetables that I have in the fridge that I think would go well with it.

Right now I'm using Isopure protein powder just because it's the one that I have and I think it would be wasteful to buy another jug before this one runs out.  I'm also a big fan of Optimum Nutrition protein powders.  I like their flavors and they are all 100% whey protein isolate and they are a little easier on the wallet than Isopure.  However, if you can afford Isopure and find a flavor that you like, go for it!

When you are choosing a protein powder, make sure that it is at least 90-100% Whey protein isolate.  This means that there is really no filler in your protein powder, so everything in that jug is protein.  The fact is that protein powder isn't regulated by the FDA, so if it's something like 60% whey isolate, who the heck knows what the other 40% is!  Protein powder is not something that you want to skimp on in terms of price and whey protein isolate percentage!

So those are just two of my favorite post workout snacks - what do you guys like?
